How to clean a cowhide

Cowhides are very popular rugs for a number of reasons. The cowhide rug is an impressive, remarkable rug which make for a great talking point. Cowhide are very resilient rugs which are resistant to wear and tear. This makes them perfect for areas where there’s a lot of foot traffic. Another reason why cowhides rugs are popular is that they are very quick and easy to clean and maintain. This means that if kept properly maintained a cowhide can last quite a long time. Here we’ll guide you on how to properly clean and maintain a cowhide so that yours will stand the test of time.

The best way to maintain your cowhide is to regularly vacuum it. It’s safe to vacuum a cowhide in the same way you would vacuum any other rug in your home. This helps in keeping it clean and preventing any build up of dirt and stains. You should always vacuum in the direction of the hair. Vacuuming in the opposite direction will damage your cowhide over time. You may also use attachments on your vacuum to clean your rug - just make sure that the suction power is not set too high.

It’s a good idea to take your rug outside once in a while and give it a good shake. Although vacuuming your cowhide will remove most of the dust and dirt, giving your cowhide a good shake can knock off anything that may be stuck deeper in the rug. Remember not to beat your cowhide like you would with a regular rug. This may damage your cowhide over time.

Brushing your cowhide regularly is a good method to keeping it clean and looking great. It doesn't require much effort or time and is much more effective than just vacuuming it. Choose a brush or broom with hard bristles. Brush in the direction of the hairs. It’s a very effective method to keeping your cowhide looking fresh.

If you happen to spill something on your cowhide make sure to clean it up quickly. If the liquid is left it will soak into the cowhide and will result in stains which will make it much more difficult to remove in the future. As soon as you notice a spill you should soak the spill with a towel or sponge. Do not wipe it as this will only spread the stain. Try dabbing the stain with a sponge and absorb as much of the liquid as possible.

If your cowhide has a stain there is still hope. The best thing to do is to use water and soap to remove it. Dab a sponge in soapy water onto the stained area. Keep in mind to use very little soap and water. You only want the sponge slightly wet. Anything more could damage your cowhide in the long term.
