REINDEER SKIN A MUST HAVE IN THE AUTUMN AND WINTER

REINDEER SKIN A MUST HAVE IN THE AUTUMN AND WINTER

Why not decorate your home with beautiful natural reindeer skin. For 1,000 years, reindeer skins have been prepared and used for practical as well as aesthetic use. A nice reindeer skin hits all records in interior points, but it is also amazing to keep heat because of the hollow hairs. Trendcarpets reindeer skin comes from Swedish Lappland and has a premium quality. A reindeer skin is used primarily as a fancy interior detail. But it can be used as a carpet, but you should not walk the leather too hard, then it can lose hair. If used as a carpet add a slip protection under the skin so that the air can circulate. This because of the skin has such an extreme insulating ability that there may be condensation under the skin, with hair loss as a consequence. Reindeer skin is natural, soft and warm to sit on but also nice to put up on the wall as decoration. Color and size may vary since each skin is unique. There is no hide that is the other equal. To keep in mind is never to wash the reindeer skin, if necessary to clean, brush it gently. You can also weep or shake the skin if you want to freshen it up. Reindeer skin should always be handled carefully!

Did you know that today there are no more wild reindeers in Sweden?

The reindeer is an animal we most associate with Norrland and the Sami people. As long as the Sami people has been working with the reindeer, it has been their most valuable commodity. The reindeer could be used as a means of payment and a replacement, but most importantly, it was actually for themselves. The milk could be drunk as it was, or used to make cheese. The meat gave people food. The skins gave warmth and protection, and when prepared, they were excellent for craft and crafts.

But what really makes the reindeer skin so useful to us?

The hair structure gives us the first clue. The hairs is as previously written hollow. The cavity is filled with air and air gives in many cases extremely good insulation. Even the coat's tightness and smoothness provide a stability for each hair, making the coat not pressed together. The insulation capability of the air can be maintained and the fur feels warm, even though we are sitting on an ice cold surface. Despite this amazing ability, to isolate through its stability, it feels very soft and smooth. As you may understand, the hair on the reindeer is longer and thicker in winter, which means that they naturally provide the best insulation against cold ground. But the winter coat is also slightly brittle and therefore more sensitive for using. In autumn the coat is slightly shorter and thinner. Reindeer skin also works perfectly as a saddle pad and is very healthy for horses with sensitive backs. The skins help to distribute the pressure from the saddle and the hair acts as "airbag", which allows air to circulate under the saddle. But do not miss that the back of the skin should be up against the saddle. It should be fur against fur.
