Patchwork Kilim rugs.

Patchwork Kilims are made from several different Turkish Kilim carpets, such as Jijim, Kayseri, Konya, Balikesir, Canakkale, Oushak, Denizli, Antalya and more. In other words, a carpet contains parts of carpets from several different towns, villages and regions in Turkey and, together, they form a wonderful amalgam of all of Turkey's different traditions and cultures when it comes to carpet making.

How is a Kilim Patchwork made?

Trendcarpet's manufacturer in Istanbul travels throughout Turkey and buys vintage Kilim carpets (Kilim carpets up to 100 years old) from dealers in small villages and regions. The carpets are then taken to laundries where they are cleaned before they are forwarded to a repairer, where they are looked after, repaired and restored. This is also where the small pieces of the old Kilim carpets are put together to create the new carpet, the Kilim Patchwork. The carpet then moves on to the final stretching. Here, all the carpets are placed on tables of different sizes and carefully stretched, from corner to corner and side to side to take on their rectangular shape.
